{"id":362,"date":"2017-06-19T18:09:26","date_gmt":"2017-06-19T18:09:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dev2.berenbaumlaw.com\/?page_id=362\/"},"modified":"2017-06-19T18:09:26","modified_gmt":"2017-06-19T18:09:26","slug":"naturalization-spouse-us-citizen","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/berenbaumlaw.com\/en\/practice-areas\/naturalization-spouse-us-citizen\/","title":{"rendered":"Naturalization for the Spouse of a U.S. Citizen"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;Naturalization for the Spouse of a U.S. Citizen&#8221; use_theme_fonts=&#8221;yes&#8221;][separator width=&#8221;20px&#8221; height=&#8221;1px&#8221; color=&#8221;#660030&#8243; margin_top=&#8221;20px&#8221; margin_bottom=&#8221;20px&#8221;][vc_column_text]The Permanent Resident spouse of a U.S. Citizen may be eligible for U.S. Citizenship three (3) years after approval of his\/her Permanent Resident status.<\/p>\n<h4>Requirements<\/h4>\n<p>To qualify for U.S. citizenship, the Applicant must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be 18 or older;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Be a permanent resident for at least three (3) years immediately preceding the date of application for naturalization;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Have been living in marital union with the U.S. citizen spouse during the three (3) years immediately preceding the date of filing the application and up until examination on the application;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Have lived within the state for at least three (3) months prior to the date of\u00a0filing the application;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Have continuously resided* in the United States as a lawful permanent resident for at least three (3) years immediately preceding the date of filing the application;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Have been physically present in the U.S. for at least eighteen (18) months out of the three (3) years immediately preceding the date of filing the application;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Reside continuously within the U.S. from the date of application for naturalization until the time of naturalization;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Be able to\u00a0read, write, and speak English and have knowledge and an understanding of U.S. history and government;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Be a person of good moral character, attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>*\u201cContinuous residence\u201d means that the applicant has maintained residence within the U.S. for the required period of time listed above.
