The Applicant also takes an English and civics test unless he\/she qualifies for an exemption or waiver.<\/p>\n<h4>The English test has three components<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Speaking Test<\/strong>: The Applicant\u2019s ability to speak English is determined by a USCIS Officer during his\/her eligibility interview on Application for Naturalization;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Reading Test<\/strong>: The Applicant must read one out of three sentences correctly to demonstrate an ability to read in English;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Writing Test<\/strong>: The Applicant must write one out of three sentences correctly to demonstrate an ability to write in English.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The civics test covers important U.S. history and government topics. During the naturalization interview, the Applicant is asked up to 10 questions from the list of hundred (100) questions and must answer correctly at least six (6) of the ten (10) questions to pass the civics test.<\/p>\n<p>The Applicant has two (2) opportunities to take the English and civics tests per application.
